THE FIONA SIMPSON BAND is a group of four musicians who perform CCM. --- Contemporary Christian Music. You’d be surprised how much you’ve heard already by artists such as Celine Dion, Kathy Mattea, Chris de Burgh, Eric Clapton, Cliff Richard, Rick Wakeman and Alvin Stardust to name just a few. CCM is simply the name given to today’s music whose subject matter centres on God, Jesus and the Gospels and is presented and performed in a modern style. Its as much a part of the music scene as any other musical style. So, The Fiona Simpson Band perform CCM for a variety of events and even if there are people in the audience who don’t accept their message they won’t be able to say they haven’t been entertained and had a good evening hearing some superb music beautifully sung and well performed. Despite their professional approach to the music and performance they only ask for their expenses to be met and for the opportunity to sell their CDs to help fund their work. So why do they do it? On the one hand they will probably be performing their concert as a fund-raiser or celebration event. On the other hand, as Christians, they seek the opportunity to spread the Good News of Jesus through the medium of modern music in a style that is non-threatening and certainly not “in your face” --- and you can believe their message or not – it’s your choice. Over
the last fourteen years they have performed in venues as diverse as a tiny wine
bar, prisons, schools, churches, BBC TV, Premier Christian radio, all three
Easter People fringe venues (Southport, Scarborough and Torquay) and folk
festivals. They perform regularly
and continually update their concert programme with new songs and self-penned
material. So
who are they? |
| FIONA SIMPSON, the main vocalist, was born in Farnborough, Hampshire and attended the Methodist church there until the age of eighteen when she left the area to become a professional singer. With the duo Therapy, she played at venues all over the world. She was called back to the Christian faith in September 1993 and since then has placed new emphasis on the opportunities afforded by her profession by joining with other Christian musicians to form The Fiona Simpson Band. | ||

BRIAN
ADAMS, who plays bass and various guitars, works as a
construction manager in the pharmaceutical industry. He has
attended church since childhood and made a conscious
commitment to Christ in 1977 prompted by reading Michel
Quoist’s “Meet Christ and Live”. Brian has played a variety of musical instruments from rock guitar to cornet and trombone in a brass band! |

| GRAHAM JACKSON, the band’s keyboard player was, until recently, a sales manager with Nestle Rowntree. He has always attended church and although he has never had a “conversion experience” he has grown steadily in his faith since the age of sixteen. He began playing piano at the age of four and by the age of twelve was accompanying the Sunday School, before graduating to the organ at fourteen. In the sixties he played keyboard and bass in a pop group. | ||
| ANDY
JAMES is percussionist and drum programmer and was formerly a
metallurgist by profession. He held a senior position in the scout
movement until 1999. Brought up originally as an Anglican, his faith was
deepened when he attended the Methodist church in Bollington, Cheshire. He
is a great supporter of those who, like himself, simply believe without
having any specific turning point in their lives. Andy retired from the band in December 2006. |
